Preparing for the RHIT Credential Exam

•  Consider enrolling in HIT 285 RHIT Exam Prep, which is offered each Fall and Spring semester. Take this class relatively close to when you plan to take the RHIT exam so that the information is fresh in your mind. It can be taken at the same time as HIT 275 or after.

•  While Early RHIT Testing – applying to take the RHIT credential exam while you are still in your last semester of courses – is an option, if you rush into taking the credential exam without taking the time to study and prepare for the test, you may not pass.

•  Instead of rushing into the exam, it is better to take the time needed to prepare for the exam through HIT 285 and/or studying exam prep materials such as the Review Guide published by AHIMA.

•  Make sure to read the Candidate Guide published and accessible at the AHIMA website.

•  If you take the RHIT exam and do not pass, reach out to the HIT Program Director, HIT/CIM Department Chair, or  the departmental Academic Counselor so that we can help you prepare for re-testing – hitcim@sbcc.edu.
