Title IX - Frequently Asked Questions

The Title IX Coordinator by phone, 805.703.4304, in person, A122, via email, lmesparza@pipeline.sbcc.edu, or by completing the Report a Concern form.

A complainant or a respondent can always bring a support person (family, friend, lawyer, union or association representative) to any meeting with the Title IX office.

A complainant and a respondent each has the right to appeal the Title IX decision.

All employees are officials with authority and mandatory reporters for ACTUAL OR SUSPECTED Title IX  incidents involving minors (under 18 years of age).

All employees are officials with authority and mandatory reporters for ACTUAL OR SUSPECTED Title IX incidents involving SBCC students.

All supervisors and managers are officials with authority and mandatory reporters for ACTUAL OR SUSPECTED Title IX incidents that are brought to their attention involving students or employees.

District Employees and Officials with Authority

District Officials with Authority are not confidential resources and are required to report allegations of sexual harassment to the Title IX Coordinator promptly. All other employees are encouraged to report allegations to the Title IX Coordinator but are not required to do so.

The District has designated the following employees as Officials with Authority:

  • ALL college employees are Officials with Authority when the complaint involves any student.
  • Supervisors and managers are Officials with Authority when the complaint involves employees.

Officials with Authority are required to report all relevant information they know about sexual harassment including the name of the Respondent, the Complainant, any other witnesses, and the date, time, and location of the alleged incident.
