Evaluation of Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees Toward the SBCC General Education Degree Requirement
You may submit a request for evaluation of your Associate's degree from a California Community College or Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution toward the SBCC general education degree requirement.
Students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution are considered to have met the general education requirements for the associate degree (Title 5, §55062(e)).
Students with an associate degree from a California Community College who are pursuing an additional degree at Santa Barbara City College are also deemed to have satisfied the general education requirement (local policy).
3 Steps to complete the form:
- Students must work with an academic counselor to determine if this form is necessary. You can contact an academic counselor:
- In Starfish. Access Starfish by logging into your SBCC campus account.
- At the Academic Counseling Center.
- Gather the following support documents:
- OFFICIAL transcripts (REQUIRED)
- Follow the instructions on Incoming Transcripts to submit your transcripts (or official evaluation report for international transcripts)
to SBCC Admissions and Records and verify your transcripts have been received.
- Official transcripts must be verified as received by Admissions and Records BEFORE you submit the form or your request will not be processed.
- Do not submit transcripts to the Transcript Evaluation Office. They will not be considered official, and will not be reviewed or processed.
- Official transcripts must be from a California Community College or regionally accredited institution and show proof you have completed the required degree or your request will be denied.
- Diplomas are NOT accepted.
- Follow the instructions on Incoming Transcripts to submit your transcripts (or official evaluation report for international transcripts)
to SBCC Admissions and Records and verify your transcripts have been received.
- OFFICIAL transcripts (REQUIRED)
- Completely fill out and submit the form:

Log in with your campus email address and password. If your SBCC campus email address does not work, then log into the form using your personal Google Gmail account if you have one. You must be enrolled at SBCC to use this form. Contact us if you are enrolled but are still unable to access the form.
After you submit your request:
Requests are generally processed within ten (10) business days of receipt of your completed form and all required documentation. This time frame excludes weekends, holidays, and campus closures and is subject to change without notification. Notifications and decisions will be emailed to your SBCC campus account.
How your transcript is evaluated:
Successful completion of an Associate's degree earned from a California Community College or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution may be used to meet the SBCC general education degree requirement. Your request will NOT be evaluated toward program requirements, IGETC, Cal-GETC, CSU GE or toward any other transfer requirements to a UC, CSU, or any other institution.
