Mandatory Compliance Training

Why We Have Compliance Training

Compliance training is an important part of our commitment to safety and equity. To help employees understand the federal, state, and/or district policies to which they are held accountable, SBCC has designated two trainings as mandatory for all employees. Every employee is required by the district to complete sexual harassment and mandated child abuse reporting training. Additionally, SBCC offers training in various subjects including environmental health and safety, sexual violence, campus safety and more.

New Employees

New employees including faculty, student workers, and temporary staff are required to complete mandatory training on a range of subjects within the first 6 weeks of employment. Training requirements vary according to position and level of responsibility.

Continuous Training

Employees are required to complete some trainings on a continuous basis. For example, every employee must complete training on preventing sexual harassment, and eliminating sexual violence every two years. For some employees, training on other topics like conflicts of interest must also be completed on a continuous basis.

California has passed legislation known as SB 1343 mandating workplace harassment training for all employees.

All SBCC employees (Classified, Faculty FT/PT, NC Instructors, Management,Temp Hourly, Student Workers) are required to complete sexual harassment training within 6 months of hire and every two years thereafter.
