Physical Education Building Replacement

A New Era for Health, Wellness, and Student Success

Transforming Campus Wellness with Measure P and State Support

Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) is proud to announce the launch of the Physical Education Building Replacement Project—an exciting, student-centered development that exemplifies the mission of Measure P: to revitalize and modernize our cherished campus while preserving its excellence for future generations.

Thanks to overwhelming community support, the Measure P bond extension passed with 66% approval in November 2024. This initiative, combined with $34 million in state matching funds, enables SBCC to move forward with one of the most transformative construction projects in its history.

A Vital Resource, Reimagined

Originally constructed in the 1960s, the existing Physical Education building has served SBCC students for decades—but time has taken its toll. The new replacement facility is a forward-looking investment in student wellness, athletic achievement, and campus resilience.

Designed in collaboration with LPA Design Studios, the new building is not just a modern athletic facility—it’s a beacon of health and well-being at the heart of SBCC’s oceanside campus.
