SBCC Recognition Awards

In an effort to honor the good work of individuals at Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) and boost morale, the Superintendent/President will oversee the second annual staff and faculty Recognition Awards! These awards will be open nominations by any currently employed SBCC personnel. The Selection Committee will be composed of the 2024 Faculty Lecturer and recipients of the Administrator of the Year and Classified Staff Member of the 2023-2024 school year. The selection of the winners will  be decided outside of the Superintendent/President and Executive Committee.

Award Categories


CREATIVITY and INNOVATION
 

The nominee was the primary person who introduced and/or facilitated a new idea or concept, resulting in the implementation of an educational program, staff development activity, fundraising effort, cultural event, or any other project that helped define the spirit of the college.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT and VAQUERO PRIDE 

The nominee's individual efforts that increased and/or enhanced the image of SBCC, through this individual's volunteerism, organizing community outreach activities, or any other type of activity being primarily responsible for proactive community participation that demonstratively raised awareness of the work and mission of SBCC.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO STUDENTS 

Any single or continuous act by the nominee (not part of their job or position), affecting one or more students, that significantly enhanced educational outcomes, personal growth, and/or career goals.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO FACULTY AND STAFF 

Any single or continuous act by the nominee (not part of their job or position) that significantly contributed and enhanced the effectiveness, professional capacity, or morale of the college's faculty and staff.

LIVING THE MISSION/VISION/VALUES AWARD 

Any single or continuous act by the nominee (outside of the individual's regular job responsibilities) that furthered the college's mission of developing an equity-minded learning community.

TURNING THE CORNER: OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT DURING TIMES OF ADVERSITY 

Over an unusually difficult, stressful, and significantly challenging year, the nominee rose to the occasion by demonstrating flexibility, perseverance, grit, and/or fortitude in defining the future for the college and our students.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Host: The Superintendent/President will host the Awards in late April of every year.

  • Logistics: The VP of Human Resources and ED, Public Affairs and Communications will administer the logistics of opening nominations, collecting them, and preparing the nominations for the Selection Committee.

  • Selection Committee: the prior years recipients of the Faculty Lecturer, Administrator of the Year, and Classified Staff Member of the Year will make up the Selection Committee for the Recognition Awards.


Recognition Awards Timeline

  • Nominations: Nominations will open for 5 weeks, with weekly email reminders to SBCC personnel to nominate.
    • Nominations open: March 5 - April 4 (four weeks)

  • Selection: The Selection Committee will meet and rank nominations, coming to a decision ahead of the Recognition Awards event.
    • Selection will occur: April 4 - April 11 (one week)

  • Awards: Glass awards will be ordered and engraved
    • Time TBD

  • Event: The Recognition Awards will be held in late April; this can also be coupled with longevity recognition to streamline the events.
