SBCC art students awarded scholarships at annual student exhibition
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (April 28, 2022) — The Art Department at Santa Barbara City
College is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2021-2022 scholarship awards
in recognition of exceptional performance and dedication in the arts.
Winni Y. Simon received the Adrian “Ozz” Osborne Memorial Art Scholarship; the Frederick and Ursula Perl Endowed Art Scholarship went to Kate L. Yiu; Bryana J. Hockman was awarded the Mary D. Thompson Studio Art Scholarship; and Maritza Alvarado was honored with the Ventura Potters Guild Award in Ceramics.

In addition to the scholarships that the SBCC Foundation oversees, is a President’s
Purchase award, a precedent set by past presidents of the college to use one of the
discretionary funds at the Foundation to purchase a work of student art. While viewing
the exhibition, Interim Superintendent/President Dr. Kindred Murillo selected two
small pieces this year: “Line” by Winni Simon and “Frida” by Moa Cronheden.
The awards ceremony was held April 14 at SBCC’s Atkinson Gallery during the opening
reception for the 2022 Annual Student Exhibition. The exhibit, which remains on view
through May 6, 2022, includes the full range of media taught in the department, including
2D design, 3D design, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. The Atkinson Gallery
is the art department's showcase for the visual arts, and hosts exhibitions of contemporary
art each academic year featuring international, national, regional and student artists
working in a wide range of styles and media.
The Atkinson Gallery is located in the Humanities Building, Room 202 on the East Campus of Santa Barbara City College, 721 Cliff Drive, Santa Barbara. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, and by appointment. Parking permits are required weekdays.
