Programs

SBCC Study Abroad Program offers short and semester programs every academic year. Programs are faculty-led and therefore destinations as well as course offerings change.

We strive to offer financially accessible programs. With an emphasis on diversity and affordability, SBCC Study Abroad aims to offer programs to a diverse student body. Applicants do not have to be enrolled at SBCC in order to apply and the programs have no major or language requirements. Applications are straightforward and requirements are attainable.

Courses offered on the programs are usually UC/CSU transferable and may fulfill IGETC requirements. Students do not currently have to be enrolled at SBCC, but are required to enroll if accepted into the program to participate.

Program Information meetings will be offered every semester.  You can find out about events on our event page or by contacting the Study Abroad office.

Semester Programs

Semester programs are offered during the fall or spring semester and are less than 90 days long. Destinations, courses offered and program directors will change every school year, so make sure you read the program descriptions carefully. Application deadlines and fees also vary by program.

Students must be 18 years or older at the time of departure and in good academic standing in order to be accepted. Semester program applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of 12 College level units with a GPA of 2.5,  submit two recommendation forms (least one recommendations must be completed by one of your instructors) and successfully complete the application process. Some semster programs also require successful completion of course ENG 110 (Composition and Reading) depending on the courses offered.

Find financial resources to help you fund your dream program.

Apply early as the number of available spots is limited on each program and programs will likely fill before the given deadline. Waiting lists will be prepared if more students apply than we have spots available. Please download and complete the required documents prior to starting the online application. You will need to upload the documents and are not able to save your application to return to it at a later time. All programs have a 20 student minimum to materialize.

This application fee will be charged by the service provider (not SBCC) at the time you are accepted into the program. This is a non-refundable fee. Subsequent program payments must be made directly to the service provider of the program. The fee will hold your spot upon acceptance into the program and is your first program payment. Should the program not materialize, this fee will be returned to you.

An interview with the program director, which is part of the application process,  will be scheduled upon receipt of your application.  Currently, all interviews with the program director will be held virtually by appointment.

Once you have completed your interview, the Study Abroad staff will review your application for completion and fulfillment of the requirements and, upon acceptance, send you an official acceptance e-mail.
