Our Community / Nuestra Comunidad

“We must lean on others to strive on our own.”

– Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,U.S. representative for New York's 14th congressional district

Our program strives to empower students to become thriving scholars and advocates for themselves and their communities. Raíces works in collaboration and partnership with many other community programs and services on and off campus. Our program is therefore possible because of the help and support of a larger community that wants to see you succeed!

  • Academic Counselors to help build your comprehensive educational plan that relates to your educational/career interests and goals.
  • Student Program Advisors to provide Raíces students with culturally relevant pláticas and community building events to affirm student voice and our cultural identities.
  • A team of educators (director, coordinator, program advisors, counselors and support staff ) to develop workshops in collaboration with other student support service teams to strengthen our community.
  • A team of Faculty developing culturally relevant Raíces course offerings that meet degree, certificate, and/or transfer requirements.
  • Mental Health practitioners who will offer free personal and family counseling, workshops, and support groups in partnership with our Student Health and Wellness services and The Well.
  • Colegas who are current students at SBCC and are available to offer advice and assistance to increase your own institutional knowledge!
