The Santa Barbara City College women's golf team is under the direction of Chuck Melendez, Professor of Physical Education. Chuck was the WSC Coach of the Year for three straight seasons (2004-06) and is the President of the California Community College Women's Golf Association. In 2006, the Vaqueros captured the school's first state title in women's golf.
Melendez grew up and was educated locally, attending Dos Pueblos High School (Goleta) and Santa Barbara City College before getting advanced degrees at Eastern Oregon State & Humboldt State. He was a star athlete at all levels, participating in football and baseball. At SBCC, he guided the Vaqueros to the 1976 WSC football championship as their QB. He finished his college career as one of the leading QB's in the nation at Eastern Oregon State University.
Chuck joined the SBCC Physical Education and Athletic Departments in 1991. During his tenure he has served as Head Baseball Coach, Head Football Coach, and is currently the Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach. He's played golf all his life and carries a low handicap.
