Siddiqi is SBART Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Amber Siddiqi, an all-WSC performer on the cross country team, has been selected as SBCC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.
The sophomore from Antioch, Calif., has a 3.71 GPA and is a member of the President's Honor Roll. The Liberal Studies major hopes to pursue a career in Global Studies/International relations when she transfers to a four-year school.
Siddiqi serves as the secretary for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She also helped start the Zero Waste Program on campus and is training to be a Project Insight leader for young people at risk for emotional problems.
"Amber was all-conference in cross country and qualified for the Southern Cal Championships as an individual before our team got an at-large invitation," said track and cross country coach Scott Fickerson. "She was a leader for the team in many ways."
Siddiqi, who runs the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 on the track team, wasn't always a top-notch student.
"I never really liked school much and always did the minimum," she said. "Once I transferred (to SBCC), I had an academic epiphany and thirsted for knowledge."
