Santa Barbara City College Theatre Group

Santa Barbara City College Theatre Group, with its direct ties to The Alhecama Players, is the longest running theatre in Santa Barbara. Since 1978 it has been located in the beautiful Garvin Theatre Complex on the SBCC West Campus.

It is recognized as one of the outstanding theatre companies in Santa Barbara, both in terms of production quality and audience size. In its review of the SBCCTG production of The Laramie Project, the Santa Barbara News Press said:

"Theatre doesn't get any better than this."

SBCCTG produces four fully-mounted shows a year using talent from the professional, community and student ranks. Three shows appear in the 400 seat Garvin Theatre and one show appears in the newly remodeled 100 seat Jurkowitz Theatre. Most shows run for fourteen performances over a three week period.

The mission of SBCCTG is twofold:

1. To provide high quality theatre at affordable prices for both our students and the community at large;

2. To provide a workshop experience for SBCC's best student actors and technicians that takes place in a completely professional environment.

This hybrid relationship between the SBCC Theatre Arts Department and the local acting community makes for a unique and powerful program that both teaches and entertains.
