PROGRAM DIRECTORS

Dr. Carrie Cropley, Program Director for SBCC’s trip to Australia, is a full-time instructor in the Communication Department. She holds a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a M.A. from California State University Fullerton, and a Ph.D. also from UCSB. Dr. Cropley has been teaching for over 8 years at the college level. At SBCC she teaches Business Communication and Public Speaking. Her past teaching experience includes one year as the traveling professor for University of Colorado’s Education Abroad Program, during which she traveled throughout North America, Asia, and Europe teaching students Intercultural and Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Conflict, and Leadership. During her undergraduate education she studied abroad at the University of Costa Rica, where she received a minor in Spanish. She loves to travel for leisure as well, and has visited China, Korea, and most recently Turkey. Her doctoral emphasis is in Interpersonal and Intercultural Communication, and she looks forward to teaching these classes once again in a foreign setting where everyday life becomes a classroom! In 2006, she directed SBCC's winter break program in Australia and in 2007, she directed SBCC's first winter break program in India.

Assistant Professor Curtis Bieber has worked on the creative side of Film and Video Production for over 14 years as a Director, Cinematographer, Editor and Motion Graphic Artist for clients such as Nike, Volkswagen, and Princess Cruise Lines. His work has been broadcast in North America, Europe and Japan. He has both lived abroad and traveled to over 30 countries in five continents. Curtis is Chair of the Film and Television Production Department at Santa Barbara City College, and has taught Production at SBCC for nine years, and at UCSB for four years. In the summer of 2007, he directed SBCC's film program in Australia.
