PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Professor Nico Maestu, Program Director for SBCC’s Prague, Berlin, and Paris Summer 2009 Study Abroad Program, is the Chair of the Film Studies Program. He holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from Otis College of Arts and Design and graduate degrees in Film and Media Studies from UCLA, where his research focused on European cinemas and documentary. Although he has lived most of his life in Los Angeles, he was born in France, studied in French schools, and speaks French and some Spanish, as well as English. He has traveled throughout Europe many times, and lived in Paris and the South of France. He teaches courses in Introduction to Film, World Film History, Screenwriting, Great Directors, Documentary Film, as well as the Film Festival Studies courses in which he takes students to film festivals, such as the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Los Angeles International Film Festival, and the AFI Film Festival. Professor Maestu looks forward to an engaging three weeks to study the film history and the filmmakers of these exciting three cities.
