Player of the Week

Each week, the Vaquero coaches and players vote on one exceptional player who has gone beyond the rest.

Michelle Diaz (3/31 - 4/6)

Vanessa Crook (3/24 - 3/30)

Michelle and Vanessa are our two Players of the Week for the past two weeks for the same reason; they are our leaders. Vanessa and Michelle are this years only returning sophomores, and they have stepped into their positions of leadership as the eldest on the team and set a wonderful example for our freshman. Whenever coach's need anything done, Michelle and Vanessa are right there making sure that everyone helps out and works as a team to complete the task. They set an example of greatness on the field, giving 110% every time they suit up.

Congratulations Michelle and Vanessa, for setting great examples and being our Players of the Week.

Jen Mosier (3/17 - 3/23)

This week's Player of the Week goes to a player whose efforts at the plate have been an incredible help to the success of the Vaqueros. Jen's performance at the plate has moved her up to lead off position in recent weeks. Jen has shown determination and hard work at practice and has made a considerable effort to improve her hitting skills. When she steps up to the plate, the team's spirits are lifted no matter the situation, knowing Jen will provide a clutch hit to score a run or move the batters around.

Congratulations to Jen, our Player of the Week.

Kasie Muro (3/10 - 3/16)

Kasie earned this week's Player of the Week in addition to being voted to the Golden West All-Tournament team. Kasie's performance both at and behind the plate have been a key element the Vaqueros' abilities to dominate their opposing teams. Hitting three home runs and several doubles in one day, Kasie far exceeded any and all expectations for a single games' work. Kasie also brings an air of lightness and  joy to the field, always with a positive attitude and determination to win. Kasie is truly a great addition to our team.

Congratulations, Kasie, on being this week's Player of the Week, and the Golden West Tournament All-Star.

Jessie Mahn (3/3 - 3/9)

This week, the team voted to have two Players of the Week. Jessie is the epitomy of team spirit and support. Jessie is always rooting for her team and encouraging them, no matter the circumstances. Though she may not have the most time on the field, she assumes her position behind the team, cheering them on and is always 100 percent in the game.

Sara Gurchinoff (3/3 - 3/9)

This week's second Player of the Week is the most determined and humble player on the team. Every week, Sara goes all out on the field, putting 110 percent effort into improving her skills and abilities. Sara is also right next to Jessie in cheering her team on. While Sara, "Gurch", may not be one of the starters, she works harder than any other on the field, showing the most heart and dedication. Sara truly is a team player.

Congratulations, ladies, on being this week's Players of the Week.

Erin Breck (2/25 - 3/2)

Erin Breck grabbed the honor for Player of the Week through her hard work and dedication.  Erin has been steady and strong at second base.  Her passion for the game shines through when she hits the field.  Erin commits herself each day to being the best she can be.  It does not matter if it is practice or a game - once Erin hits the field it is "game on". Diving and taking no prisoners, she is our "Charlie Hustle".  Erin is a great example of hard work paying off.  She is quickly becoming a team leader as this year’s squad is packed with 18 very talented freshmen and two returning sophomores.  Congratulations to Erin Breck, our Player of the Week.

Kristina Sewell (2/18 - 2/24)

This week's player was a unanimous team pick.  Kristina has stepped up her performance on the mound, knowing the team is relying on her ability to control the opposing team’s offense. Determined to reach perfection, Kristina works hard daily to improve her pitching.  She is constantly pushing herself on and off the field.  She is a student of the game, always paying attention to detail.  Kristina injured her hand a week ago but looks to return to the circle next week.  Congratulations Kristina! A well deserved honor.

Barbie Clemons  (2/11 - 2/17)

Barbie is the picture of what we are looking for in an athlete. Always the first to grab her glove and ask what she can do, Barbie is a coach's dream.  As a true utility player, Barbie began her focus at first base, but injuries to pitchers Kristina Sewell and Cierra Lard has put Barbie back in the circle. She is truly respected and well liked by everyone. The team rallies around her and embraces her as the example of the kind of player they wish to be. Congratulations to Barbie Clemons, our Player of the Week.

Sonja Crawford  (2/4 - 2/10)

After finally getting to play in some competitive games, Sonja proved why she deserves to be at the top of the line-up. Sonja hit her first home run of the season against LA Valley and no errors in the field in over 12 innings. She is constantly pushing her teammates to work harder and make themselves better. Her demeanor on the diamond has a tendency to influence the attitude of the entire team, as the rest of the girls seem to look to her for guidance. Off of the field, Sonja works hard in the classroom and is proud to call herself a SBCC Scholar-Athlete. Sonja will play a pivotal role for SBCC as conference approaches. Look for her name to make some waves in Southern California.

Alaura Contreras (1/31- 2/4)

Our first Player of the Week is Alaura Contreras.  "AZ"  (for Arizona) is the type of player that any coach would love to have.  Always hustling while maintaining a positive attitude, Alaura is a true team player.  Already one of the quickest when she joined the team, she has absorbed everything our Strength and Conditioning Coach, Peter Aguilar, has taught her and has radically improved her speed. In the weight room, Alaura can never be caught resting. Either sit-ups or bench pressing, "AZ" always finds something to do, never wasting time. Alaura has excelled in the classroom as well, defining the term "student-athlete".
