Introducing the 2009 City College Softball Team
The 2009 Santa Barbara City College Softball squad will begin its 11th season under the direction of Head Coach Paula Congleton and Assistant Coach Bill Hilliard and Allison Slade.
The Vaqueros are returning eight sophomores and have a group of seven talented and eager freshmen looking to continue the success of 2006, 2007, and 2008 teams. The Vaqueros lead the conference last year in batting with a .337 average and added 7 players to the All-WSC Conference Team and Jennifer Mosier and Erin Breck to the Southern California ALL-STATE Team.

Head Coach Paula Congleton and her staff are looking forward to coaching a full squad of outstanding players from Arizona, Colorado, and Northern and Southern California.
The Vaqueros will travel to Cerritos to play the defending state champions on openning day Tuesday, January 27. And if that is not enough, the SBCC squad will travel to Mt. SAC (number 2 in the state) to play the Mounties and Fullerton College the same weekend, January 31.
The Vaqueros will play their first home game at Pershing Park on Saturday, February 7 against Rio Hondo. Doubleheader is schedule for Noon and 2pm.
Players signed during their First Year:
Kasie Muro - After an outstanding season with the Vaqueros, Kasie is now playing with Cal. State Bakersfield
Cierra Lard - Hampered by injuries last season, Cierra is now pitching for Mesa State
Jennifer Moiser - All- Soutehrn Cal. utility player, Jen Mosier will begin the 09 season with Cal. State Northridge
Returning players include:
Erin Breck - 2nd base, Sonja Crawford - catcher, Gabby Garza - pitcher, Sierra Van Olphen - outfield, Alaura Contreras - outfield, Sara Gurchinoff - outfield, Brianne Bagwell - 2nd base. Tawni Irvine - 3rd, 1st base will join the squad this year after playing her first year at Syracruse University.
This years Rookies include:
Bianca Alvarez - 3rd base, Lauren Gniadek - 3rd base/pitcher, Lauren Takayesu - outfield, Bryanne Monelo - pitcher/utility, Amanda Sharp - 1st base/catcher, Kellee Venturi - 1st base, Becky Abbott - utility.
The Vaqueros are working hard and are excited about the potential they possess to achieve great things this season.
Allison Slade,Strength and Conditioning Coach, has been working hard with our players this year, emphasizing speed, power and agility.
Assistant Coach Bill Hilliard is developing the outfielders and hitters. The coaching staff is excited about the dynamics of this year's team and are looking forward to an outstanding season.
