The Political Science/Economics Department at SBCC offers a variety of
courses designed to
introduce the student to the rudiments of political science and
economics as a discipline,
as well as to enable students in either major to receive a solid basis
for their continued
efforts at a four year institution. Courses in Political Science range
from introduction to
the American Political System to introduction to International
Relations, to Public Policy
analysis, Political Violence, Global Studies, Model United Nations, as
well as to Political
Theory, Comparative Politics or Government and Politics of the Middle
East, among others.
In Economics, the department offers courses in macro and micro economics as well as more advanced courses in International Finance. The department has also pioneered special programs at SBCC that include the Pacific Rim (China/Vietnam) Study Abroad program, the Washington D.C. Internship program, and most recently the Middle East Study Abroad Program to Istanbul in Spring 2007. The Department has also launched its Global and International Studies program in Fall 1998, enabling students to focus more specifically on the emerging trends of the new world order and study them in an interdisciplinary fashion, as well as the Middle East Studies Program in 2006, offering an AA in Middle East Studies for students at SBCC.
