Orientation is required for new students who have never been to college or those who only attended while in high school, and who have an educational goal on their SBCC application of:
- Associate Degree, or
- Transfer to a four-year institution, or
- Basic English/Math/Reading skills
Orientation provides students with information about Santa Barbara City College's educational programs, support services, college facilities, student life, and students' rights and responsibilities.
Special Departmental Orientations

We offer a variety of orientation options to meet the needs of our students. Find the description that best matches you and choose one of the recommended college orientation options:
1. Any first-time college student, any semester
2. Local high school students, Fall and Summer semesters only
If you live in the Santa Barbara area, you may attend an on-campus Orientation & Advising program with your classmates in May. This is coordinated by your high school and is for local high school students only.3. Transfer or re-entry students
4. ESL students
