Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to complete Orientation before I register for classes at SBCC?
All new students at SBCC are strongly encouraged to complete Orientation to learn about the resources and services available to them at SBCC. However, only those students who are enrolling in college for the first time with an educational goal of basic skills improvement, associates degree, or transfer are required to complete Orientation and will have a registration hold that prevents them from registering for classes until they complete Orientation.
How do I know if I have a registration hold for Orientation?
Your registration holds are listed on your student record in Pipeline. To find your registration holds, follow these directions:
1. Log in to Pipeline.
2. Click on "Student Records" in the Registration and Student Records box.
3. Click on "View Holds."
How can I complete Orientation?
Please refer to the Orientation Home Page for brief descriptions of the different ways to complete Orientation. More detailed descriptions can be found by clicking the links in the left-hand menu. If you are a new student for Spring Semester, please note that Online Orientation is the only option for English-speaking, domestic students.
What if I am enrolling in ESL classes?
Domestic ESL students need to attend one of the ESL Orientation/Advising/Registration sessions offered prior to the start of the semester. You will also need to attend one of the ESL assessment dates. More information on the ESL Orientation/Advising/Registration sessions can be found by clicking here.
What if I am an international student?
International students must attend the mandatory meeting offered by the International Student Support Program prior to the start of each semester, regardless of if you are enrolling in ESL classes or not. The mandatory meeting will clear your orientation hold. You will also receive advising and register for your classes at that time. For contact information for the International Student Support Program, click here.
I was enrolled in Dual Enrollment classes in high school. Do I still need to complete Orientation?
Yes, all students who are enrolled in college for the first time, even if they took classes while in high school, are required to complete Orientation.
When can I complete Orientation?
You are able to complete the Online Orientation as soon as you have your K number. You do not need to take your assessment tests before you complete Orientation, but you must complete Orientation and take your assessment tests before you attend advising. We encourage you do this as soon as possible after submitting your application.
If you are from out-of-the-area and attending an orientation over the summer with your parents, we encourage you to attend as early as reasonable for your family in order to sign up for your preferred classes.
What is my SBCC student ID number? How do I get one?
Your SBCC student ID (K00------) is not the same as your application ID number. You can find your student ID number by logging into your Pipeline account. If you have not logged into Pipeline before, click on "Find my username/password" to activate your account. For more detailed directions on finding your student ID, click here.
