The Associate Degree Nurse or Registered Nurse (RN) is prepared to coordinate, plan and provide nursing care in hospitals and similar health agencies. The RN assists patients with personal care, provides teaching and counseling to prevent illness and promote health, and performs specialized treatments and procedures. Registered Nurses function as team leaders and direct the care provided by Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), as well as unlicensed health care workers.

Graduates of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program are qualified to take the California state board examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in California.

ESTIMATED COST
Students must purchase uniforms, nursing shoes, watch with a second hand, stethoscope, bandage scissors, hemostat, all nursing modules and required textbooks. There are some materials fees which are paid at the time of registration for applicable programs. Students are responsible for transportation to and from clinical agencies and to the college. The first semester is the most costly. Scholarships and financial aid are available through the Financial Aid Office.

LVNs
LVN to RN students are entered each spring semester. LVNs currently licensed in California are admitted in one of two tracks, see web site for description. Advanced standing is granted to LVNs based on evaluation. A maximum of three semesters is allowed for LVN to RN students to complete nursing program requirements.
