Associate Degree Nursing Program Application Requirements

Applications are accepted year-round upon completion of program perquisites.

There is no application deadline.

Mail all official transcripts and ADN application to:

To Apply to the Nursing Program and be Placed on the Wait List the following is required:

  1. Submit an application to the college-http://www.sbcc.edu/apply or call Admissions Outreach at (805) 965-0581, ext. 7222 for a hard copy
  2. ADN Application
  3. Official high school transcript or GED. (Even if you have a college degree, this is required)
  4. Chemistry: 1 semester college with lab (SBCC Chem 101 or 104)
  5. Math: Intermediate Algebra (SBCC 107 or Math 111, or SBCC Math Assessment result that shows eligibility for a class higher than Math 107 or Math 111)
  6. English: (SBCC English 110: Composition & Reading)
  7. Anatomy with lab (SBCC Bio Med 107)
  8. Physiology with lab (SBCC Bio Med 108 )
  9. Microbiology with lab: (SBCC Bio Med 127)

Note: 

  • All official high school and college transcsripts must be received in the Health Technologies Office in the original envelope sealed by the issuing school.
  • Unofficial SBCC transcripts will be accepted and must be provided by the applicant.
  • Overall GPA from college transcripts must be 2.0 or higher.
  • A "Cut score" of 72 or greater is required for admission to the ADN program.  Cut score is determined by a formula based on an evaluation of all college transcripts.
  • Prior to entrance, applicants must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) and meet the State requirement of a minimum composite score of 67%.  Applicants on our wait list who are scheduled to begin the program within a specified time frame will be invited to take the TEAS test at SBCC.

 

It is advised that all prospective applicants make an appointment with an academic counselor at SBCC.

Nursing Students may be required to complete a criminal background check prior to placement in the clinical area. If a student is unable to receive background clearance, they will not be placed in clinical sites and will be unable to complete required course objectives. Applicants who have a criminal background must be aware of this factor when considering a career in nursing.

Application Procedure

Once all application requirements are met, submit an application for the ADN Program to Health Technologies with all official transcripts. Students are added to the bottom of the list when all application materials and transcripts have been evaluated and it has been determined that all prerequisites and entrance criteria have been met.

Please be advised that a valid social security number is required to obtain Registered Nursing License.

Wait List

All wait list applicants are mailed Reconfirmation Letters twice a year, once during the spring semester and once during the fall semester. The response portion of the letter must be signed and returned to the Health Technologies Office within the time frame indicated on the letter to remain on the list. Failure to respond to this letter, will result in removal from the wait list.
