July 13, 2009
Students enrolled in the SBCC Automotive Technology curriculum have a new car joining the fleet in the Auto Quad – a 2008 silver Toyota Prius.Funded through a Perkins grant, the hybrid automobile was delivered to campus on June 30. The Prius will offer students hands-on laboratory time to practice their skills in repairing and maintaining these vehicles designed to run both on gas and rechargeable electric power.
"Hybrids are increasing in popularity as more Americans become aware of improving their car mileage and reducing carbon footprints," said Bob Stockero, SBCC Associate Professor, Automotive Services. "With our new Prius, students will receive additional training in this critical new area which will serve them well in the job market."
