NOTEWORTHY
FOUNDATION STUDENT FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN. This week is your last chance to participate in the Foundation for SBCC's Campaign for Student Success. Every donation made
to the Foundation for SBCC through June 30 will be matched by 50 percent from a matching gift through a charitable trust.
Act now to make your dollars go farther, and help SBCC's students. The Foundation for SBCC’s gives a heartfelt thanks to all
of the faculty and staff who made phone calls on the Foundation's behalf and who donated. The support is enormously appreciated.
Donate online at www.sbccfoundation.org or drop by the Foundation office on the second floor of the Administration Building on East Campus if you would like to join
in.
SBCC PICNIC. Plan on joining your colleagues on Sat., Sept. 24, at Tucker’s Grove in Santa Barbara for the SBCC Picnic. We have reserved
Kiwanis Meadows from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and the schedule includes a BBQ meal prepared by the SBCC Food Services Department,
activities and games for both adults and children, and plenty of raffle prizes. More details will be announced shortly.
WEEKS OF JUNE 27 – JULY 8, 2011
BOOKSTORE INVENTORY CLOSURE. The Bookstore will be closed Tuesday through Thursday, June 28-30 for its mandatory annual inventory. Staff will accommodate
students with blue books and scantrons but no other sales will be possible.
FARMERS’ MARKET ON CAMPUS. Check out the fresh local, organic produce at the weekly Farmers’ Market held during Summer Session each Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on West Campus in front of the Library. The goal is to possibly add some fruits, nuts and flowers so be sure to stop by every week to see the new offerings. The vendor accepts only cash so bring money and your reusable bags to carry your purchases.
FOURTH OF JULY. SBCC will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Traffic in the surrounding areas will be busy with annual festivities during the day and evening and ending with the fireworks display at West Beach at 9:00 p.m. On the holiday, campus parking permits will not be valid. SBCC’s Athletics Department will man all lots and charge parking fees with proceeds to benefit our sports teams. La Playa Stadium also will be closed for safety reasons. If you need to work on July 4, please contact Michele Rasch at ext. 2276 for a special parking pass. Vehicles may not remain on campus after 2:30 p.m.
SOLID GOLD CADILLAC. The SBCC Theatre Arts’ Department will present The Solid Gold Cadillac from July 8 – 23 at the Interim Theatre on West Campus. Set in 1953, The Solid Gold Cadillac begins at the annual stockholders' meeting of General Products, a colossal manufacturing corporation. Just as the company
directors are about to vote themselves large promotions and even larger raises, Laura Partridge, an older woman who owns a
mere ten shares in the company, stands up to question their actions. Flustered by the first person who ever dared to stand
up to them and hoping to keep her quiet, the directors offer her a job in the company. The plot takes off from there and corporate
America will never be the same again. Performances will be held Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00
p.m. Previews are on July 6 and 7 at 8:00 p.m. The Sunday, July 10 performance at 2:00 p.m. will be live-captioned for the
hearing impaired. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors, and $8 for students. Call 965-5935 for tickets and
information.

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATORS. Two SBCC faculty are participating this summer in global graduate studies that focus on studying Buddhism and conservation
in Thailand and environmental education on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. In July, Julie Smith will be studying in Thailand, where the group of 20 U.S. and international educators will join Thai educators to begin long-term
collaborative projects linking classrooms in both countries. While there, they will also be investigating tropical ecology,
exploring the relationship of Buddhism to the environment and education, and studying indigenous ecological knowledge and
spiritual connections to nature. Also in July, Anne-Marie Soltysik-Webb will travel to Trinidad with a group of U.S. educators and Miami and Zoo instructors to conduct field research projects at
the Nariva Swamp, an area formally designated as a Wetland of International Importance; Matura Beach; and the Asa Wright Nature
Center, known throughout the world for its abundance of bird species. This year, Julie and Anne-Marie are two of more than
350 U.S. and international educators and graduate students selected to travel with the program from Miami University’s Project
Dragonfly. The program builds on Earth Expeditions, a partnership between Project Dragonfly, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens,
and partner institutions worldwide.
THEATRE ACT. Physical Education instructor Bonnie Lewis recently participated in the SB-ADaPT Festival’s Omega Program at the Center Stage Theatre in Santa Barbara. Representing Santa Barbara’s DramaDogs, Bonnie performed “Freda,” a solo dramatic act incorporating dance, video and sound. She collaborated with Patricia Frank on the piece which is a warm and personal memoir of Bonnie’s childhood relationship with her grandmother.
