Jazz oriented classes are offered in Theory and Arranging, Improvisation (three levels), Small Group Performance, and Big Band performance. S.B.C.C. currently offers four Big Bands. The Monday Madness Big Band is made up of local professional musicians and meets in the fall semester to rehearse the most challenging literature of the genre. The Legends Big Band rehearses on Monday evenings during the spring semester to continue its series of musical tributes to the legends of Big Band Jazz. The Lunchbreak Big Band has consistently taken top honors at the Reno International Jazz Festival in the community college division. The Good Times Big Band has experienced tremendous growth and performed exceptionally at the Fullerton College Jazz Festival and Reno Jazz Festival. A new jazz laboratory complete with computer assisted instructional materials is now being utilized by students in our program.
