Hebrew Program

Modern Hebrew is spoken by most of the seven million people in Israel while Classical Hebrew has been used for prayer or study in Jewish communities around the world. The Hebrew program offers two basic courses, HEBR 101 & 102, focused on the basic skills of reading, grammar and syntax. It also introduces the essentials of spoken and written Modern Hebrew.

 

Hebrew Course

HEBR 101 — Beginning Modern Hebrew I

(5) — CSU, UC
Skills Advisories: Eligibility for ENG 110 or ENG 110H or ENG 110GB.
Hours: 72 lecture
Beginning course on reading, grammar, syntax and the essentials of spoken and written Modern Hebrew.
Provides and introduction to the culture of Hebrew speakers.

HEBR 102 — Beginning Modern Hebrew II

(5) — CSU, UC
Prerequisites: HEBR 101 or two years of high school
Hebrew with a minimum grade of “C” or qualifying score on SBCC SoML placement exam.
Skills Advisories: Eligibility for ENG 110 or ENG 110H or ENG 110GB.
Hours: 72 lecture
Continuation of HEBR 101. Focuses on the essentials of spoken and written Modern Hebrew for the beginner and provides and introduction to the culture of Hebrew speakers.
