Required Materials/Equip.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Each student entering diving classes will be required to purchase and maintain specific items of personal equipment; most of it diving gear. These are tools of the profession that prospective employers may require in addition to your daily training at SBCC. The department maintains a multi-million dollar inventory of state-of-the-art specialized diving equipment for student training. All personal student equipment is subject to approval by the diving control board.

Diver in Full Working GearStudents must provide the following equipment prior to commencement of diving modules:

  • Dive Wristwatch (Casio G-Shock or equivalent)
  • Full Wet Suit 1/4" (minimum) including gloves
  • Hood and booties
  • Face Mask Fins Snorkel
  • Adjustable weight belt w/ soft coated lead weights (for SCUBA use- 20-24 lbs lead in 2lb increments)
  • Second adjustable weight belt with minimum 30lbs of lead (uncoated weights acceptable- for commercial diving use)
  • SCUBA regulator assembly
  • Submersible pressure gauge
  • Octopus second stage and keeper device
  • Jacket style BCD with power inflation (integrated BCs are acceptable, you must still have 2 weight belts as described above)
  • Underwater timing device or dive watch
  • Depth gauge
  • Underwater compass
  • Diving knife
  • Underwater slate
