Too Much Noise!?!

When students first encounter the Luria Library, they are often surprised by the number of people and also by the noise level. The main floor of the library is an active learning environment where students can study in groups, use computers, or grab a mocha. On this main floor, you can also meet with a librarian or a tutor for personalized attention. All the sound from computers, espresso machines, and conversation can feel quite overwhelming. This is one aspect that makes the library feel alive. Students learning together is important and we want to make sure we can support that here in the library.

Naturally, this high level of activity doesn’t work for every student at all times. We know this.

Fortunately, the Luria Library has a second level below the main floor. On our lower level students may be surprised by the sanctity of quiet that permeates the floor. Here you will find dozens of individual study carrels and our main book collection. It is intentionally kept quiet; in fact, this is the expectation. If you experience disruptions or noise on the lower floor, please don’t hesitate to let any staff member know and we’ll take care of it.

The Luria Library has a little something for everyone: studying in groups or individually; collaborating with one of our librarians; or, meeting a friend for a cup of coffee.

All are welcome.
