1. Students who know of and are encouraged to utilize specific stress-reducing techniques will be more likely to succeed.

ACTIVITY: Stretching exercises - Students are shown some specific stretching exercises that can be done at their computer, desk, and workplace. These stretches are focused on reducing stress in the neck, shoulders, and lower back, and help to reduce strain injuries in the wrists (carpel tunnel syndrome) and hands (tendinitis).

2. Successful students are able to relax and take breaks.

ACTIVITY: Class break for food - Especially useful for longer evening classes that attract working students. Students are given a 15 minute break at 7 PM to go outside, and get something to eat while the food service is still open. The break is punctual (I have stopped mid-sentence!) and early in the class so that all will be encouraged to return after the break. Many students need to have dinner or a snack or could use cup of coffee. The opportunity for some light conversation with classmates and a step outside is also refreshing. The students return ready to focus.
