Wellness
Students were presented with a developmental model of college student
success which emphasizes three key components to success: (1) academic achievement
in the form of grades, (2) sense of purpose and personal identity with associated
life goals, and (3) wellness in managing multiple roles and demands, as
evidenced by emotional stress balance. Students in the psychology class
were given the "Wellness Inventory of Student Effectiveness" (WISE)
self-assessment tool to assess their emotional life stress balance, physical
symptoms, stress coping and life style habits. Referral information for
the Career Advancement Center and Student Associations was provided to those
with undeveloped sense of purpose; to the Tutorial, Learning Disability
and Learning resource Center for those with academic achievement needs;
and to Health Services/Wellness/Counseling Center for those with health
needs.
