Purpose Statement
Assignment seeks to show
students what a set of quality notes contains following two lectures at the
beginning of the semester.
Description of Activity
1. Basics of good
notetaking are reviewed briefly during first class lecture.
2. Students are asked to take good notes during two introductory lectures on
the nature of politics, basic concerns of political inquiry, etc.
3. Students are asked, following lectures, to compare their notes with
classmates
4. Students receive copy of teacher's complete notes and asked to compare them
with their own.
Materials Needed
Handout of teacher's
lecture notes for first two class sessions.
Application
Exercise works when
initial comments on good notetaking are combined with collaborative student
learning activity and then followed up with example of teacher's lecture notes.
