Purpose Statement
It is important to have students fill out progress forms,
especially in developing a term paper. Their use helps students with time
management and responsibility. The task is broken down for them and thus
becomes not as scary.
Description of
Activity
During the semester students fill out progress forms as they
develop a term paper. After collecting forms, instructors should write comments
and return the forms to students. As they are returned instructors can make
general observations about the projects or alert two students to the fact that
they are working on the same project. It is suggested that three forms be given
out. The first would ask students to list ideas, indicate possible sources, and
write down problem areas. The second would ask students to commit themselves,
list sources again, and again indicate problem areas. The third would be a
progress check after the report is started.
Materials Needed
The forms are developed before teaching the course.
Instructor can decide what questions to ask and how many forms to fill out.
Students fill the forms outside of the class.
Application
Students can fill these forms outside of class. Their use
provides students with very useful information. The instructor can take care of
problems as they are manifested.
Related Student
Services
This activity is good for all students. It is particularly
good in working with students in special programs. The instructor can then work
with these programs to help the students.
