Jerry Pike
has been teaching college English since 1977. He began
his teaching career at CSU, Chico, where he earned
B.A. and M.A. degrees, and at Butte College, where
he earned an A.A. degree. In 1984 he began work on
a Ph.D. in American Literature at UC Davis. In 1988-89
he went to Germany on a Fulbright grant, where he
taught literature and composition for Johannes Gutenberg
Universitat. After completing his doctoral studies
at UC Davis in 1990, he came to Santa Barbara City
College in the fall of 1991, where he worked in the
English department, teaching literature and all levels
of composition, serving as the Director of Composition
during the 1994-95 school year.
Though still a member of the English department, he
has been working full-time as the Director of Learning
Support Services since the fall of 1995. In this capacity
he is responsible for research and development of
all activities within the Learning Resource Center
and for assisting faculty in the application of technology
to teaching, as well as the incorporation of learning
skills into the curriculum.
