To access the Internet, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) is needed. Most home users connect to the Internet with a modem, which is a device that allows your computer to communicate with another computer over a phone line. It converts the computer's digital signals into the analog signals necessary for phone-line transmission. There are several other ways of connecting to the Internet including WebTV, ISDN lines, DSL and cable modems. |
