The CLRC offers a series of Learning Skills Workshops and Writing Skills Workshops every semester.

All workshops are held on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. in the Cartwright Learning Resources Center, next to the Luria Library on West Campus, unless otherwise noted. Workshops are open to all SBCC students unless noted. Seating is limited, so arrive in time to secure a seat.

Videos of some Learning Skills Workshops are available in the CLRC. Look for "Learning skills workshop" in the CLRC media database.

Learning Skills Workshops are now also being offered at the Gateway Center.

 


 

Note Taking Strategies: February 5
Expand your knowledge of note-taking techniques and purposes.
Time Management: February 19
Manage your time effectively and create healthier lifestyle patterns.
Overcoming Procrastination: March 5
Learn about causes of procrastination and create an action plan to eliminate it from your life.
Test-Taking Skills and Coping with Test Anxiety: March 19
Increase success and confidence by examining academic and emotional management techniques.
Learning Styles: April 9
Identify your own learning styles and how to adapt them to the dominant teaching styles.
Math Confidence: April 23 12:00-12:50
Develop strategies that promote a positive attitude and productive participation in your math class.
Stress Management: May 7
Learn to manage stress and obtain a healthier lifestyle for better overall wellness.

For any of the workshops, you may bring an assignment on which you are currently working, or use one of our examples.

No pre-registration necessary. Arrive in time to secure a seat; limited to 36 participants each session.

Increase revision confidence by learning to check grammar and clarity in your academic writing.

Learn how and where to find appropriate sources to develop your research paper for any discipline.
MLA and APA Citation Part II: April 30
Learn how to evaluate sources, format your paper, and build your works cited page.
