Student Life

 

Getting involved in student life on-campus is a great way to enhance your academic studies, improve your language skills, and make friends to last a lifetime! Below are suggestions from SBCC students for getting involved on campus.

Check your Pipeline email. Pipeline is the primary mode of communication on campus, and groups send out invitations to join in campus life on a regular basis!

Student Organizations

Join a club on campus. SBCC has a wide variety of active clubs, and joining a club is a great way to meet people that have similar interests. If you have an idea for starting a club, contact the Office of Student Life for information.

Get involved in Student Senate. Actively participate in creating school policies, and represent your fellow students! Check out the Student Senate website for more information.

Join the SBCC Ambassadors. Work together in a multicultural student group to plan events that engage the diverse students of SBCC, reaching out to new and continuing international students, campus student groups, and to the Santa Barbara community. We are committed to making SBCC an inclusive campus and supporting all of our students through their time here. 

Apply for Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society for the Two Year College. Students who join PTK have access to tools and resources that enhance the scholastic experience at SBCC, and connect them with other students who prioritize academic achievement, service, and community action. Any eligible student may apply during the third week of each semester. In order to join, one needs to have completed at least 12 units at Santa Barbara City College and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. 

Sports

Intercollegiate Sports. SBCC Athletics Try out for one of the SBCC teams, and become part of the SBCC history of award-winning athletics. For coaches' contact information visit the SBCC Athletics Department website. 

Intramural Sports. Just want to play for fun? SBCC joins with UCSB to form the college Intramural Sports League. For information visit about the SBCC/UCSB intramural sports leagues, visit the UCSB RecCen.

Community

Volunteer in the community. Enhance your studies, give back to the Santa Barbara community, and build your resume. Check the Job Connection in Pipeline, or volunteermatch.org to start your search!

Join the Conversation Café. Meet up at the Conversation Café for casual conversation to learn about cultures around the world, practice English, and make new friends!
