Interview with Adam Green :
What teaching tip or counseling advice do you have for other faculty?
Passion. If you don’t have it, neither will they.
What "Words of Wisdom" do you have for other faculty?
Stay relevant.
Who was your most influential teacher and why?
My mother. She taught first grade for 42 years and never lost her love for it. After retiring she immediately started substitute teaching.
What is your favorite student line or excuse?
I couldn’t find a computer.
What are your hobbies/interests?
Hiking, traveling, ultimate Frisbee, surfing, photography.
What are you reading now?
Plan B, 3.0 by Lester Brown.
What do you love about your job?
The combination of educating students, working with the campus, and creating positive change in the community.
What has been your greatest accomplishment and/or challenge?
Greatest challenge: saying “no”
Greatest accomplishment: I think I said “no” once. Seriously, though, founding the Center for Sustainability.
What's one thing most people don't know about you?
I’m not a vegetarian
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Living and teaching in a sustainable system with a high quality of life that doesn’t bankrupt our natural capital.
Or, just sitting on a surfboard in a moderate swell on a warm day.
What historical figure would you most want to meet?
Ronald Reagan, so I could ask why he took down the solar panels on the white house.
What is your favorite place in the world?
Sitting on a rock outcrop in the Serengeti listening to the lions roar.
What is your personal motto?
Start with dialogue and common ground, but fight like hell for what’s right when necessary.
