Adjunct Faculty Requirements

Beginning Fall 2003 SBCC is substituting one week of professional development activities for one week of instruction each semester. As an adjunct faculty member, your professional development obligation is based upon the number of hours per week you teach each semester. Please refer to the FAQ Adjunct Q&A for details on how this requirement is computed.
 
In the past, adjunct instructors were required to attend flex activities on specific scheduled days. Beginning in the 2003-2004 academic year, the requirement can be completed either during scheduled days at the beginning of the semester or at any time during the semester when you are not in the classroom or have scheduled office hours. Be sure to check with your department chair; there may be orientations or meetings that require adjunct participation. You may be able to fulfill your professional development requirement with these department activities.

Generally, the types of activities you can do are: 

Attend orientations, training or meetings that your department schedules;

Participate in workshops and activities scheduled on August 28th and 29th for fall semester and January 15th and 16th for spring semester, or workshops and events scheduled throughout the semester. 

Complete individual activities within the guidelines established by the Faculty Enrichment Committee.
