An avid reader from a young age, I first fell in love with English grammar while taking a ninth grade Honors English course with a tough but passionate teacher, Sister Mary Roger. The cross-cultural linguistics courses I took during my post-baccalaureate coursework in ethnomusicology helped me understand the challenges ESL students encounter while learning English. During my studies of ethnomusicology, I also gained an enthusiasm for interacting with people from all over the globe and learning about their cultures. My love of learning eventually came to include a love of teaching, ESL in particular. I earned my TESL certificate from UCSB Extension in 2004. I have teaching experience in adult education and intensive English programs in addition to private tutoring. I have been teaching at SBCC CE since 2005.
