The name Lifescape refers to the numerous types of edible/ornamental plants that are planted in category groupings. These include:
Dwarf Citrus/Semi-Dwarf Avocado and other Edible Subtropicals
Dessert Bananas and assorted Tropical-like Edibles
Deciduous Pome Fruits and Stone Fruits
Miscellaneous Deciduous and Worldwide Exotic Edibles
Perennial and Seasonal Herb and Culinary Landscape Plants
Edible Flowers and Decor Ornamentals

The Lifescape is an official part of the Horticulture Department. Plants, fruit and landscape projects should be respected and not tampered with or harvested. Many of the plants are part of individual students projects. When appropriate, the Gourmet Dining Room, which is part of the Hotel Resaurant Culinary (HRC) Program at SBCC, prepares exotic dishes from the Lifescape harvests. Fresh herbs and garnishes are continually used by the HRC Department.
Everyone is invited to visit the gardens and a respect for the special nature of this landscape is appreciated.

The entire complex is used to train apprentice-students toward careers in horticulture. Through grants, endowments, and individual donations, the Lifescape and Chumash Point are becoming a substantial horticulture endeavor. Students, each semester, help implement the gardens' themes, maintain and improve the various parts of this one-of-a-kind educational facility, and put this living artform into motion. Community Garden hours are each Thursday, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Area volunteers meet to help us prep the site.

Earth Day celebrations will be held here annually. Chumash festivities will be scheduled also. Various SBCC academic departments are encouraged to utilize Lifescape/Chumash Point in their studies.

The community is encouraged to schedule appropriate endeavors also. It is hoped that the site will be able to become all-weather disabled accessible. Other significant future projects need funding and support. Enjoy your visit, and please keep the site clean. If you wish to help support or fund on-going projects, contact Jerry Sortomme, EH Department Chair.
