First Year Student Teaching

As a student entering your first year of student teaching, you are required to complete a minimum of 45 shifts of student teaching during the 16 week semester you are enrolled in ECE 103 and ECE 104. You will design a consistent weekly student teaching schedule for the semester that will include a minimum of 3 shifts, each lasting 3 hours, on a minimum of 3 separate days, Monday-Friday.

As a student enrolled in ECE 103, you will do your student teaching at Kinko's Early Learning Center either working with young children, ages 2-5 or young children, ages 3 months-2 years. If you have successfully completed 3.0 units of work experience, ECE 290, before the semester you enroll in ECE 103, you may use your work site as your placement for student teaching.

The student teaching shifts at Kinko's Early Learning Center are scheduled as follows:

AM Shifts are Monday-Friday
7:30 - 10:30
8:30 - 11:30
9:15 - 12:15

Nap Shifts
11:00 - 2:00

PM Shift (Not on Friday)
2:00 - 5:00

The ECE Department highly recommends that one of the three shifts is a nap shift.

As part of your student teaching at the Kinko's Early Learning Center, you are required to attend one discussion group per week scheduled during your student teaching shift. When trying to figure our your schedule, you must have one shift that meets during one of the scheduled shifts listed below. The LTA will let you know what 30 minute time period during your shift will be your discussion group time.

Discussion Group Shift Schedule
9:15 - 12:15 - Tuesday
2:00 - 5:00 - Tuesday
7:30 - 10:30 - Wednesday
11:00 - 2:00 - Thursday

If you are completing your student teaching requirement in the community, you will arrange your schedule with your supervisor and share the information with your course instructor. Remember, you need to designate a minimum of 9 hours a week, 3 hour shifts on 3 separate days of the week, Monday-Friday, as your student teaching times.

As a student enrolled in ECE 104, you will follow the same guidelines for designing your weekly student teaching schedule. You need a minimum of 45 shifts of student teaching. This consists of a schedule of a minimum of 9 hours of student teaching, 3 hours on a minimum of 3 separate days for the entire 16 week semester.
