Orfalea Early Learning Center

A Program of Santa Barbara City College

Preschool Program

The Preschool Program is a child-centered child care facility that encourages children to choose freely from a wide range of play and learning experiences. In addition, the Pre-school Program is a student teaching site for the SBCC Early Childhood Education Department.

The variety of experiences include opportunities for creative self-expression, development of manipulative skills and motor coordination, increasing knowledge through science and cooking, the development of concepts through exposure to materials which stimulate basic cognitive processes and growth of language skills. The Pre-school Program offers full day care for children, 2-5 years old. The daily program includes two nutritious snacks, a hot noon meal, and a restful nap period.

Infant Program

The Infant Program is an infant-child care facility and a student teaching site for the SBCC Early Childhood Education Department. Infants and toddlers are encouraged to freely choose from a wide variety of experiences. The Infant Program provides an environment that promotes infants and toddlers to actively explore, experience language development, and develop social relationships with peers and adults.

The Infant Program recognizes the parent as the child's primary teacher. The caregivers and ECE students strive to provide an atmosphere of respect, confidentiality, and optimal care while parents pursue their educational and occupational goals. The Program offers full day care for children aged 3 months to 2 years. Breakfast, two nutritious snacks, and lunch are provided. Naptime is scheduled individually for infants. Toddlers nap after lunch.

The Center is licensed as a preschool and an infant facility. The Center's teaching staff meets all Child Development Permit regulations.
