CSMT 029A: Cosmetology Workshop

Limitation on Enrollment: Enrollment in or completion of SBCC Cosmetology required course(s) or Cosmetology or Esthetician licensure in another state and eligibility for California licensing examination with completion of additional hours. Consists of supervised instruction and practical application for students who require additional hours in order to complete the 1600 hours requirement for Cosmetology licensure or 600 hours requirement for Esthetician licensure.
CSMT 029B: Cosmetology Workshop(1.0) F, S

CSMT 101: Introduction To Cosmetology-Level 1(4.7) F, S
The first 200 hours of basic instruction of the total 1,600 hours of training to be prepared for the California State Cosmetology Board examination and license. Student is introduced to all phases of cosmetology. After the basic training, the student is assigned a station.
CSMT 102: Introduction To Cosmetology-Level 2(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 101
Students complete 200 hours of instruction and practical applications, with an emphasis on hair analysis and hairstyling, using rollers and pin curls.
CSMT 103: Introduction To Cosmetology-Level 3(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 102
Students complete 200 hours of instruction and practical applications, with an emphasis on combouts and brushouts of roller curls and pin curls; permanent waving covered extensively.
CSMT 104: Introduction To Cosmetology-Level 4(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 103
Students complete 200 hours of instruction and practical applications, with an emphasis on various forms of hair coloring, such as dying, tinting, lightening, frosting and tipping.
CSMT 105: Advanced Cosmetology-Level 1(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 104
Students complete 200 hours of instruction and practical applications, with an emphasis on various forms of hair straightening and waving, blow styling, manicuring, massage and facial makeup.
CSMT 106: Advanced Cosmetology-Level 2(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 105
Students complete 200 hours of instruction and practical applications, with an emphasis on skin, hair and scalp disorders and their treatment.
CSMT 107: Advanced Cosmetology-Level 3(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 106
Students complete 200 hours of instruction and practical applications, with an emphasis on various forms of light therapy and the basic chemistry involved in cosmetology.
CSMT 108: Advanced Cosmetology-Level 4(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 107
Students complete 200 hours of instruction and practical applications, with an emphasis on opening and managing a beauty salon.
CSMT 111: Esthetician Training 1(4.7) F, S
First 200 of the 600 hours required to prepare for the California esthetician licensure examination. Students introduced to the role of professional esthetician and to all phases of skin care.
CSMT 112: Esthetician Training 2(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 111
The second 200 hours required to prepare for the California esthetician licensure examination. Focuses on application of esthetician techniques and skills at the SBCC Cosmetology Academy.
CSMT 113: Esthetician Training 3(4.7) F, S, Summer
Prerequisites: CSMT 112
Completes the 600 hours required to prepare for the California esthetician licensure examination. Focuses on refining esthetician skills, providing an overview of salon operation, and preparation for employment and for the licensure examination.
CSMT 114: Manicure Training II(4.6)
The first 200 hours of instruction for the 400-hour program preparing students for the California State Manicurist Board examination and license. In addition to instruction in manicure techniques, bacteriology, sanitation, safety precautions and anatomy, students work with clients in the SBCC Cosmetology Academy.
CSMT 115: Manicure Training II(4.6)
Prerequisites: CSMT 114
The second 200 hours of instruction for the 400-hour program preparing students for the California State Manicurist Board examination and license. In addition to instruction in manicure techniques, pedicures, artificial nails and business skills, students work with clients in the SBCC Cosmetology Academy.
CSMT 121: Introduction to Cosmetology-Module 1(12) F, S
First of five consecutive segments of instruction. Twelve units of Degree credit for 360 hours of class work completed with a "C" or better average. Designed as preparation for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Exam and successful career as a cosmetologist. Includes orientation, basic hair styling, manicuring, facials, make-up, permanent waving and scalp treatments, among other care regimens. Pivot Point Member School.

Prerequisite: CSMT 121
Second of five consecutive segments of instruction. Twelve units of Degree credit for 360 hours of class work completed with a "C" or better average. Fifth of five consecutive segments of instruction. Twelve units of Degree credit for 360 hours of class work completed with a "C" or better average. Designed toward preparation for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Exam and successful career as a cosmetologist. Includes salon hair design, salon hair sculpting, salon manicuring and pedicuring, salon facials and make-up, among other care regiments. Also includes State Board mock written and performance exams. CSMT 131: Esthetician Training-Module 1(12) F, S, Summer
First of two consecutive segments of instruction. Twelve units of Degree credit for 360 hours of class work completed with a "C" or better average. Designed as preparation for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Exam and successful career as an esthetician. Includes orientation, basic skin care procedures and techniques, analysis of the skin, facial treatments (manual, electrical and chemical), facial massage manipulations and temporary hair removal, among other care regimens. Prerequisite: CSMT 131
Second of two consecutive segments of instruction. Twelve units of Degree credit for 360 hours of class work completed with a "C" or better average. Designed as preparation for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Exam and successful career as an esthetician. Includes advanced skin care procedures and techniques, advanced topics (aromatherapy, spa treatments, chemical exfoliation, analysis of the skin), facial treatments (manual, electrical and chemical) and facial massage manipulations, among other care regimens. CSMT 141: Manicure Training-Module 1(12) F, S, Summer
A complete segment of instruction. Twelve units of Degree credit for 400 hours of class work completed with a "C" or better average. Designed as preparation for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Exam and successful career as an manicurist. Includes orientation, manicuring, pedicuring, electric filing, nail tips, wraps, no-light gels and acrylic nail enhancements, among other care regimens. Pivot Point Member School.
CSMT 290: Work Experience In Cosmetology(1-4) F, S, Summer
Limitation on Enrollment: Enrollment in a Cosmetology course or current California cosmetology license and at least one year's experience in a licensed cosmetology establishment within the preceding three years. 75 hours of work experience = 1 unit of credit. Consists of supervised on-the-job work experience for students whose cosmetology career objectives and course of study or employment complement each other. Students must accomplish specific course objectives. Class meetings are scheduled each semester.
