The Computer Network Engineering and Electronics Department at Santa Barbara City College offers preparation for industry-based professional certifications in the computer networking fields. 

 


Cisco Certified Network Associate 
"The CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists."

The CNEE Dept. at SBCC participates in this partnership as a Cisco Network Academy. The CNEE Dept. offers two courses that cover all CCNA Cisco Network Academy curriculum. After completing all these courses, students will be prepared for the Cisco Certified Network Associate exam. 

The courses are the following: 
CNEE 125 CCNA I
CNEE 126 CCNA II


Cisco Certified Network Professional 
"The CCNP certification (Cisco Certified Network Professional) indicates advanced or journeyman knowledge of networks. With a CCNP, a network professional can install, configure, and troubleshoot local and wide area networks for enterprise organizations with networks from 100 to more than 500 nodes. The content emphasizes topics such as security, converged networks, quality of service (QoS), virtual private networks (VPN) and broadband technologies."

The CNEE Dept. at SBCC participates in this partnership as a Cisco Network Academy. The CNEE Dept. offers four courses that cover all CCNP Cisco Network Academy curriculum. After completing all these courses, students will be prepared for the Cisco Certified Network Professional exams. 

The courses are the following: 
CNEE 135 CCNP 1: Advanced Routing Configuration 
CNEE 136 CCNP 2: Remote Access Networks 
CNEE 137 CCNP 3: Multi-layer Switching 
CNEE 138 CCNP 4: Network Troubleshooting 


Cisco Firewall Specialist 
"Cisco security certifications focus on the growing need for knowledgeable network professionals who can implement complete security solutions. Cisco Firewall Specialists focus on securing network access using Cisco IOS Software and Cisco PIX Firewall Technologies."

After completing these courses, students will be prepared for the Cisco Firewall Specialist exams.

Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist 
"As organizations adopt wireless LAN technology to gain the competitive advantages of an increasingly mobile and productive workforce, they need qualified professionals who can design, install, support, and operate a wireless solution. The Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist indicates significant knowledge of relevant factors involved in deploying Cisco Wireless LAN solutions. Cisco Wireless LAN Specialists understand radio technologies associated with WLAN 802.11 standards, understand WLAN and bridge topologies and applications, can configure WLAN products including access points, bridges, client devices and accessories, can explain Aironet software and management features, can configure various security methods for Wireless LAN environments, understand basic antenna theory, understand how to perform a site survey covering WLAN topology and design, and understand vertical market deployment and challenges including equipment utility and cable awareness."

After completing this course, students will be prepared for the Cisco WIreless LAN Support Specialist exam.

CompTIA A+ Certification
"A+ is a solid certification that employers look for and is the industry standard for entry-level computer technicians. Every business uses computers and skilled technicians are in demand. An A+ certification opens the door to an exciting career in computer technology at an affordable price. 
Having an A+ certification proves that you have a broad base of knowledge and competency in core hardware and operating system technologies including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking."

The CNEE Dept. at SBCC offers  CNEE 102 PC Repair I: Hardware and CNEE 112 PC Repair II: Software. After completing these two courses students will be prepared for the A+ Certification exam.

CompTIA Network+ Certification
"The CompTIA Network+ certification is the worldwide standard for professionals with at least nine months of experience in network support or administration.

The CNEE Dept. at SBCC offers CNEE 110 Networking Essentials as preparatory courses for the Network+ Certification.

CompTIA Security+ Certification
"The CompTIA Security+ certification tests for security knowledge mastery of an individual with two years on-the-job networking experience, with emphasis on security. The exam covers industry-wide topics, including communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, access control, authentication, external attack and operational and organization security."

The CNEE Dept. at SBCC offers CNEE 120 Fundamentals of Network Security as preparatory courses for the Security+ Certification.

C-Tech 
Network Cabling Specialist
C-Tech has designated the CNEE Dept. at SBCC as a "Certified Training Facility". This allows the CNEE Dept. to prepare and test students for certification as a "Network Cabling Specialist". 
The CNEE 105 Network Wiring & Cabling course prepares students for this certification. The certification exam is administered after completing the course. 

Microsoft Certified Professional 
"The Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) credential is for professionals who have the skills to successfully implement a Microsoft product or technology as part of a business solution in an organization. Hands-on experience with a product is necessary to successfully achieve certification."
