Dr. Janet AfaryCentennial Leonardo Dorantes Memorial Lecture, 2009 - 2010 By Janet Afary, Ph.D.  March, 10, 2010Wednesday, 12:45 pmSBCC Sports Pavilion Janet Afary, Ph.D. - Born and raised in Iran, internationally renowned scholar and activist, Janet Afary, earned her MA in Linguistics from Tehran University and her Ph.D. in History and Near East Studies from the University of Michigan. Dr. Afary recently joined the faculty at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she holds the Mellichamp Chair in Global Religion and Modernity. Prior, she taught History and Women’s Studies at Purdue University, where she was awarded University Faculty Scholar.
