I am a Parent
Welcome to the Santa Barbara City College Career Center website! We've designed this section just for you, to provide you with some information about what the Career Center offers students, and suggest ideas for you to support your son or daughter in his or her endeavors. Encourage your student to become familiar with the Career Center services early while at SBCC, either by exploring our website or by stopping by.
Ways to Help your Student Succeed
If your student needs help finding a job:
Send him or her to the Job Connection. We post new jobs daily, mostly local, both full and part-time jobs as well as internships and volunteer positions.
If your student is unsure about choosing a major:
Have them check out the Choosing a Major section of the website, or suggest they take the Career Assessment Packet, which includes Strong Interest Inventory, The Myers Briggs Type Indicator and a values exercise. A career counselor then meets with your student to help interpret the results and suggest "next steps."
If your student is anxious about choosing a career:
Suggest they check out our What can I do with a major in . . . or EUREKA, online Career Information System, which is designed to help students explore majors, careers and educational opportunities.
If your student is inexperienced in the world of work:
Have him or her check out the Get Experience section of our website, which gives suggestions on how to get jobs, internships, volunteer positions or do job shadowing in order to help them gain career-related practical experience.
Click Workshop Schedule for dates and times of helpful Career Center workshops.
