I received a BA and MFA from UCSB. I have taught at SBCC since 1980. My work has been shown locally and nationally, including the San Diego Museum of Art, Artist Forum Gallery in San Francisco, Portsmouth Museum, Virginia, San Jose Institute of Art, and the Art Museum at UCSB. Over the years I have taught Fundamentals of Drawing, Foundations of Design, Portrait, Figure Drawing, Acrylic Painting, Landscape Painting and Pastel. I have also served as Director of SBCC's Atkinson Gallery. I have a background as a graphic designer and illustrator as well as taught painting and drawing privately.
As an artist my work in the studio begins with observation, leads to exploration, develops into total immersion forming a potential ground for beauty's appearance.
As a teacher my goal is to give you tools for your artwork and an appreciation of the process of seeing and making. I want you to learn how to see in a new way. To master skills, to solve problems, become involved in the work and enjoy the whole process.
