reception: Friday, November 13, 5-7pm The final show of the fall will be an important exhibition for the Atkinson Gallery and the community. Nationally known artist Alison Saar will be showing sculptures, drawings, and prints November 13 -December 11. Ms. Saar has had solo exhibitions in major museums such as the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. Her work is in numerous museum collections including the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Her recent public sculpture of Harriet Tubman, commissioned by the City of New York, is now on permanent view in Harlem. For this exhibition Ms. Saar has made a small sculpture, Inheritance, which will be cast in bronze at the foundry of the SBCC Art Department. A number of the works from this edition will be made available for sale as a fundraiser for the Atkinson Gallery. There will a brochure for this exhibition that will include an essay by Nancy Doll, Director of the Weatherspoon Gallery at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Ms. Doll was formerly the Director of the SB Contemporary Arts Forum. Ms. Saar will give a public lecture on her artwork on December 2, 4:30pm in the Physical Science building, room PS 101. |
