Steps to Enrollment

Tuition & Fees

All students, resident and non-residents, must pay an enrollment fee of $46.00 per unit with no maximum amount. If you are a California resident and you need help paying the enrollment fee, you may qualify for the Board of Governors Grant Waiver (BOGW). Apply in the Financial Aid Office (SS-210) before enrolling in classes.

SBCC does not send bills.  It is the student's responsibility to manage their accounts through the Pipeline student portal.  It is also the student's responsibility to drop their classes by the stated deadlines.

What are Mandatory Fees?

Mandatory fees are: Health Services Fee, Transportation Bus Pass Fee, Student Activity Pass and the Student Representation Fee.  Students who are taking on campus classes are required to pay all mandatory fees.

Health FeeThe Health Fee is mandated by the State of California and approved by the Board of Trustees. They require the college to have a nurse on campus. Many health and wellness services are available free or at low cost through the Health/Wellness Office (SS-170). The Santa Barbara Community College District exempts apprentices, dependent children and surviving spouses of members of the California National Guard who are killed or permanently disabled while in the active service of the state, and students who depend on prayer for healing. If you need an exemption form, please visit to the Cashier’s office (SS-150).  Only students taking credit course(s) are eligible to pay for, and receive, these services.

Transportation Fee – All students registered in on campus classes pay the transportation fee and may ride the Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) bus seven days a week. Beginning one week prior to the start of the semester, students ride by simply showing their student ID when boarding the bus, with the exception of the Waterfront Shuttle. Once your semester fees, including the bus transportation fee have been paid, the bus transportation sticker can be picked up in the Office of Student Life (CC-222). You must bring your SBCC ID card to obtain the sticker.

Student Representation Fee - This fee supports student representatives who state positions/viewpoints before city, county, and district governments, and before offices/agencies of city, state, and federal governments. Student Representation Fee Exemptions – You may for religious, political, financial or moral reasons request a refund of this fee.  You may opt out of this Fee during the registration process on pipeline.  If you have already paid for it, please visit the Cashier's Office (SS-150) within the first two weeks of school for a refund.

Student Activity Pass – This fee provides free admission to all men's home football and men's and women's home basketball games (regular season only), as well as select campus theatre and music events. It is also good for clothing discounts in the Campus Bookstore and for discounts at selected businesses in the community. Proceeds from this pass support the following programs: Drama, Music, Athletics, and Student Activities including President's Honor Roll Reception, Outstanding Student Awards Reception, and Commencement.  You may opt out of this Fee during the registration process on pipeline.  If you have already opted out and would like to purchase a Pass, please email the Cashier's Office to request a new one.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1.  How can I pay my registration fees online?

To pay registration fees online go to http://pipeline.sbcc.edu, then log on your Pipeline account.  On the home page, select "Student", then select "Pay My Bill".  You can pay by credit card (Visa or Mastercard).  Select the method of payment, then select the term in which you are paying.  Follow the payment instructions.  "DO NOT back space when you are processing payment"

2.  If I don't pay my fees, will I be automatically dropped?

As the student, you are responsible for dropping classes by the stated deadlines.  If you register in a class and later change your mind, it is your responsibility to drop the class. Review your schedule/Bill for course deadlines.  Log on to http://pipeline.sbcc.edu. Log on your Pipeline account. On the home page, select "Student", select "Registration", then select "Register, Add or Drop Class".  Follow the instructions on the Add/Drop Classes page for dropping a class.

3.  When do I need to pay my fees?

You are encouraged to pay your fees at time of registration. Payment must be received within seven (7) days of registration or you may be dropped for non-payment.

Students will not be dropped for non-payment after instruction has begun. As the student, you are responsible for dropping classes by the stated deadlines. If you register in a class and later change your mind, it is your responsibility to drop the classes.

For Financial Aid Students: If you have been awarded (Authorized, Memo, or disbursed aid) you will not be dropped for non payment of fees. You will be responsible for any balance not covered by Financial Aid. Log into your Pipeline Account and check to see if you have estimated aid by checking the Award Payment Schedule under the Award Menu in Financial Aid.

4.  Who do I make my check payable to?

Checks should be made payable to SBCC.  Write your Student ID number on the face of your check. DO NOT MAIL CASH! There will be a $20 service charge on all returned checks.  Mail your check to:

Santa Barbara City College

Attention: Cashier's Office

721 Cliff Drive

Santa Barbara, CA 93109

5.  Can I make a payment over the phone with a cashier?

No, the cashiers are only able to answer questions over the telephone.

6.  If I have an Outside Agency paying my fees directly to the college, how do I notify your office?

The Agency should send the Cashier's Office a letter of authorization. The letter should include the student name, ID # and indicate the specific fees the agency will cover. SBCC will invoice the agency after the add/drop period of each semester. For more information, please email cashiers@sbcc.edu.

7.  What does a Financial Hold / Outstanding Balance Hold mean?

A hold is placed on all student accounts with past due fees. The hold prevents you from registering for courses, ordering transcripts and receiving your diploma.  Additionally, you may not participate in additional school activities for which you need to pay through the cashier’s office, such as field trips, while your account is on a financial hold.  The Financial/Outstanding Balance Hold will be released automatically after 15-30 minutes upon receipt of full payment.
