1.0       CALL TO ORDER

           

            1.1       Approval of Minutes ­ November 5, 2003 meeting.

                        With correction: Tom Mahoney is now listed as absent.

 

M/S/C To approve the Senate Minutes for the November 5, 2003 meeting. (Frankel/Stockero) 2 abstentions.

 

            1.2       Announcement ­ Veteranıs Day Holiday, November 11, 2003.

To observe Veteranıs Day on November 10th for the purpose of having a three-day weekend may demean the purpose of the holiday. The Senate may wish to modify its recommendation for next year's College Calendar accordingly.  The issue shall be placed on the next agenda as a discussion item.

 

1.3       There was a brief discussion regarding next weekıs voting procedure for new/replacement faculty. Before the voting begins, the EVP will give his recommendation for the top 12 and rationale as to why these positions need to be filled.

 

1.4       The EVP gave a brief update on Oracle and the testing plans and procedures that are underway so that OSS can go live for Spring 2005.

 

1.5       The Faculty Recognition Committee has chosen a nominee for the Hayward Award for Excellence in Education and would like to bring their recommendation to the next Academic Senate meeting. It was agreed to place this item on the Agenda as an action item for the next meeting.

 

 

2.0       ACTION

 

2.1       Policy #1914 ³Underloads and Overloads (Unbalanced Loads)²

Agreed (at our previous meeting) by unanimous consent to bring the final cleaned up version back as an action item at our next meeting.

 

Clarification needed on banking overload options statement: ³it can be paid to the instructor at his or her request². The understanding is that banked overloads can only be paid out at the termination of employment.

 

In section number 1914.1 Summer Overloads change the word ³units² to TLUs.

  

M/S/C To approve the cleaned-up version of Policy #1914 (Garey/Frankel) Unanimous.
