  • Nathan Kreitzer - DM-118, ext. 2230
  • Nathan is an Assistant Professor who teachers voice and conducts the three SBCC choirs, including the celebrated Quire of Voyces. He holds a Master's degree in Choral Conducting from UCI. He is a professional vocalist who has performed widely in this country. In addition to his work as a teacher, Professor Kreitzer is the Director of Music at First United Methodist Church.

  • Dr. John Clark - DM-120, ext. 2496
  • Dr. John Clark, the music department Chairman, teaches Theory and Musicianship, Songwriting, and several music literature classes including Jazz History, History of Rock and Roll, and Music Appreciation. Dr. Clark earned his Ph.D. in Music History from UCSB. An active composer, he has had several pieces performed by the SBCC Symphony Orchestra, most recently, "Dark Journey." He composed music for the Pulitzer Prize winning play, "The Kentucky Cycle." Dr. Clark is also an accomplished jazz painist who regularly performs with local ensembles.

  • Eric Heidner - DM-117, ext. 3090
  • Eric is an instructor in Jazz Studies, Theory, and History. He is the director of the SBCC Concert Band and "Good Times" Jazz Ensemble. He holds a B.M. in Trombone Performance and an M.A. in Musicology, both from UCSB. Mr. Heidner is the former Driector of Bands at Santa Barbara High School. He has worked with Doc Serverinsen and has played for Dizzy Gillespie and former president Ronald Reagan.

  • James Mooy - DM-119, ext. 2759
  • James Mooy is an Assistant Professor who teaches Music Technology, Jazz Studies, and Music Appreciation. He is the conductor of the SBCC Symphony Orchestra and the Lunch Break Jazz Ensemble. He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music and education from UCLA. Mr. Mooy is a Music Academy of the West alumnus, who has toured the U.S. and Japan as a professional trumpet player.

  • James Watson - DM-110A, ext. 2379
  • A former U.S. Marine and SBCC student, James spent several years in the San Francisco bay area learning, working, and performing. He holds a B.A. in Electronic Music from San Francisco State University, and an M.A. in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University. James plays trumpet, trombone, and guitar in various jazz, classical, and pop groups at SBCC and around town.

  • Erin Bonski-Evans - DM-121, ext. 2495
  • Erin is a prolific pianist, conductor and educator in the Santa Barbara area. She has received national and international awards for her work as collaborative pianist, including first prize in the Marjorie Conrad Peatee Art Song competition, a full scholarship to the Van Cliburn Performing Arts Institute, and first prize in the International Liszt Competition in Pomona. She was also the first American semifinalist as pianist at the International Concours de Adolphe Saxe in Belgium, where she won the Audience Favorite award.


    She currently holds faculty positions at Westmont College and SBCC, and is full time Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Barbara. She has accompanied and coached locally for Opera Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Theatre Company and Music Academy of the West. Other professional positions include Staff Accompanist at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, Staff Continuo Player at Oberlin Conservatory’s Early Music Festival, Core Repetiteur and Chorus Master with Toledo Opera Association in Ohio, and Assistant Director of Opera at the University of California at Santa Barbara.


    Erin has recorded the piano works of Earl Louis Stewart, has published reviews and articles for American Music Teacher Magazine, and is in the process of publishing a class piano methodolody. She is listed in Who's Who In American Colleges and Universities.


    Erin lives in Santa Barbara with her husband Matt and daughter Aria.

  • David Campos is an Adjunct Instructor who teaches piano and jazz studies. He is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He is an active performer both as a soloist and in ensembles. He is also a composer, arranger, and session player for a variety of recording projects.

  • Dr. Linda Holland 
  • Linda L. Holland is an internationally recognized composer/performer whose works have been performed in London, Spain, New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Pittsburg, and many other locations across the United States. Her compositions have won awards from the Corwin Foundation, the International Festival of Women Composers, the Festival of New American Music, the National Flute Association, and ASCAP. Her works have been premiered by; ZAWA! (at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and National Flute Association Conventions), Schola Cantorum, Areon Flutes (at Carnegie Hall), the Ojai Camerata, the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, Current Sounds New Music Consortium, and soloist Jill Felber. As a flutist Dr. Holland has been a guest soloist and lecturer at the National Flute Convention in Dallas, the Southern California Bach Festival, the Northern California Bach Festival, the Society of Composers Incorporated, and the International Festival of Women Composers. She has appeared with many different ensembles in the Southern California area including the Channel Islands Symphony, Ojai Camerata, Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera, Ojai Chamber Music Series, and the Cabrillo Theatre Company. She is one of the founding members of the Current Sounds New Music Consortium. In addition to her work at Santa Barbara City College (since 1999) Dr. Holland is also the Director of the MERIT (Music Education Reinforces Intellect and Talent) program at the Music Academy of the West, a chamber music training program for exceptionally talented high school age instrumentalists. Dr. Holland received her BM in flute and saxophone performance from California State University Sacramento, her MM in composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, her MM in flute from the University Of California Santa Barbara, and her PhD in composition from the University of California Santa Barbara. Her most recent commission is Centennial Fanfare for the 100th year anniversary celebration of Santa Barbara City College 2009-2010.

  • Ralph Lowi - DM-121
  • Ralph Lowi teaches History and Appreciation of Rock and Popular Music, World Music, and lessons on double bass for studens in the applied music program. He recieved his Bacherlor of Music in jazz performance from California State University, Northridge, his Master of Arts in ethnomusicology from University of California, Santa Barbara and is currently working on a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology. His dissertation focuses on experimental "noise" music practices. Ralph is an active musician in the Santa Barbara area participating in a variety of music styles including classical, jazz, experimental, and country.

  • David Malvinni is an Adjunct Professor who teaches Music History and Appreciation and History of Rock. He holds a B.A. from Rice University, an M.M. from UMass Amherst, and a Ph.D. from UCSB. His book, "The Gypsy Caravan: From Real Roma to Imaginary Gypsies in Western Music and Film," was published in 2004. He has published articles on a variety of topics from rock to Rachmaninov. Malvinni is also the Driector of Music Education for CAMA, and he teaches and perfoms on classical guitar and violin.

  • Bill Redman - DM-116
  • William Redman is an Adjunct Instructor who teaches guitar and jazz studies. A former student of Ron Purcell at SCU Northridge, he has a Master's degree for San Jose State University, where he studied classical guitar with Jose Rey de la Torre and composition with Higo Harada. He performs regularly throughout California and is a member of the Monday Madness Jazz Ensemble at SBCC.

  • Dr. Charles Wood - DM-121, ext. 2234
  • Charles Wood is an Emeritus Professor of jazz studies who retired from full time work at SBCC after serving as chair of the Music Department for three years. He was Director of Bands and Jazz Studies for 15 years. He completed a BSED (Cum Laude) at Ohio University, an M.A. in PErformance and Conducting at Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Music Education at UCLA. He has also studied with Ernest Harris, Gardner Read, Edouard Hourlimann, and Ernet von Dohnanyi. He is a frequent guest conductor and adjudicator for frestivals. Dr. Wood has composed serveral pieces for Concert Band and the SBCC Choir & Orchestra.

  • Anthony Ybarra 
  • Anthony Ybarra is an Adjunct instructor in Jazz Improvisation and Guitar studies. Anthony is an alumnus of Santa Barbara City College music program and a graduate from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California where he holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in guitar performance. He has studied Flamenco with Adam Del Monte, Jazz with Joe Diorio and Frank Potenza, Rock & Pop with Steve Trovato and Richard Smith, and Classical with James Edwards and David Oakes. He also traveled to Spain and studied Flamenco with Jesus Montoya (cousin of Nino Ricardo and Tomatito).
        Anthony is an active, sought out soloist, composer, and recording artist in many styles. He has recorded 5 albums under his own name and his music has been featured on Turner Classic Movies, Showtime’s original series "Dexter", the 3rd installment of the film "Species", and independent documentaries. In the summer of 1999, he played the part of Ritchie Valens in the musical, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story and received outstanding reviews. Anthony can also be found lecturing on Brazilian music on the UCTV network.
        He has performed internationally at the North Sea jazz festival in the Netherlands, the Montreux Jazz festival in Switzerland, Spain, Mexico, and in Hong Kong. Anthony has performed with Grammy nominated composer Maria Schneider at Santa Barbara City College, shared the stage with trumpet legend Doc Severson and in 2001 he performed with flamenco guitar virtuoso Adam Del Monte and his quintet at the historic Wilshire Ebell Theater in what the L. A. Times hailed as a “great show”. He was asked to perform for the private premier parties of “The Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest” and “The Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End” where he entertained the entire cast and crew including Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, and Geoffery Rush.
